About us
Champion Pool & Spa's story begins in a Gebhardt family garage, where innovative solutions were crafted to serve pool builders and homeowners. In 1965, Central Pool Supply established its first official location in Peoria, IL. Over the decades, the company flourished, expanding into wholesale distribution, steel pool fabrication under the Crusader Pools brand, and the manufacturing of Pool Pride pool chemicals.
While Crusader Pools ceased production in 2008 following a sale to Richard and Sandra Gebhardt's three sons, the legacy of Central Pool Supply continued. At the close of 2022, a new chapter began when the distribution and chemical divisions were acquired by their sister, Jill, and her husband, Joel. As part of the purchase agreement, the company rebranded as Champion Pool & Spa.
Today, Champion Pool & Spa represents the third generation of Gebhardt family ownership. Jill and Joel's children have joined the business, ensuring the continuation of Richard and Sandra's vision. Champion Pool & Spa remains committed to the core values established by its founders, while embracing modern commerce, innovation, and exceptional customer service.
A cornerstone of the company's offerings is the Pool Pride line of pool chemicals. Developed in 1965 by Richard Gebhardt, a chemist dedicated to understanding the unique challenges of Midwest pool maintenance, Pool Pride is still manufactured and packaged in Washburn, IL by Pride Manufacturing, LLC. The original formulas, crafted for the specific needs of the region, remain in use today, with Pool Pride chemicals produced in small batches, right here in the Midwest, for the Midwest.

Making sure you as the customer are heard and get the most value for your money is important to us at Champion Pool and Spa, we do not compensate any of our staff with commission pay. It doesn't matter how much you spend with us, you will get the same attention and service.
Aspen
Aspen is our newest team member with over 8 years of experience in retail customer service. As a former life guard she will not only keep you safe in our store, but help you keep you water safe and clean at your home.
Erik : Store Manager
Erik has years of experience with managing staff and production schedules and is a master at water chemistry.
Sean
Sean is our warehouse dynamo. He keeps our warehouse and facilities in order with a level of OCD that is just right.

Jill and Joel : Owners
Jill and Joel bounce back and forth between the two locations here at Peoria and the other in East Peoria. Jill oversees all of the retail operations and is especially proud of the After Thoughts Boutique. Joel just fills in the gaps.
